If you have a mushroom in first place and a blue spiny shell is coming for you, you can try to time your mushroom boost to narrowly dodge the blue shell's explosion (this also works with a golden mushroom).
Use speed-ups and shells wisely (if you have a stack of three mushrooms, using them at the same time will not make you go faster than if you only use one of them).
Turn the camera around every once in a while to notice incoming shells faster.
Use banana peels to block red shells from behind.
If you have a green shell, try to line up your throw with the person in front of you to have a better chance of hitting them.
Right when the POW block gets the 3rd hit, do a wheelie (or shake your Wii remote frantically) then keep going.
Try to use the shortcuts that are in every level so you can unlock them more quickly and easily.
Always try to have something at your back, like a shell or banana, to protect yourself against red shells that you don't see coming.
A Super Mario Galaxy save present on your Wii will make the Rosalina unlock instantaneous.
Always shoot red shells at people in front of you (unless they have bananas behind them).
